Loved your blog! I moved here two years ago and I am always asking people how they can stand this New England weather, and they always say, "What??? What's wrong with the weather here???" I have to then assume that they have never left the area and don't realize that there are places where the sun does come out more than two days in a row; of course even that forecast would be a welcome sight these days!!!

This is really not normal. This is our Pacific Northwest weather. It may even be Pacific Northwest winter weather.

I'd would say that for the last 10 or so years we've had this weird phenomenon of our seasons shifting about a month, so that June is still colder than we expect and September feels like August. We haven't gotten much snow before Christmas in a long time, however, this year was a notable exception.

I don't know. We have tons of sun -- TONS -- and my glass is still half empty. I think it's that English genes thing you mentioned: all my ancestry is pretty much English and Irish, so the incessant, oppressive sunshine we have around here makes every cell in my body collectively go "WTF?!" every time I step outside.

I'm totally with you on the weather forecast thing, though. I'm convinced that they have a random icon generator at our local forecasting center.

Just discovered your blog -- look forward to reading more!

Aw, it must suck having the pretty ocean right out your back door and no sun so that you can go enjoy it! It'll get better. The sun will come out tomorrow (tomorrow!), la la la, I don't know all the words to that song.

Well, Saskatoon is the sunniest city in Canada, so I think we've all been a little spoiled and have unrealistic expectations!

I hear you!

I used to tell people about the sun that came with the cold when I was living in Ireland. The gray and wet dreariness used to get to me a lot. We may have cold -50 here but at least we can sit in the sun streaming through our window and pretend like we are on the beach in Mexico!

You will survive!
