I know y’all are going to think I’ve completely lost my mind but I am actually missing decently cold weather right now. I’m sick of the slushy, soupy mess that Massachusetts gets after a snow when the weather hovers just above freezing. Today, instead of a day of steady snow we had a constant downpour of rain which turned our freshly fallen snow into a sloppy disaster. Just walking to the car is like wading through a damn waterfall.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not missing the -40-55 degree weather (-40-67 F) that Saskatchewan has been getting. I have no desire to relocate to the polar ice caps. But the typical Saskatchewan winter temperature of -12-18 (10-0 F) seems preferable in my mind. At least the snow stays snowy and although climbing over snowbanks and shovelling walks isn’t fun, it’s possible to enjoy the outdoors with the appropriate clothing.Â
I miss the sun! Â I actually miss crisp winter mornings where the sun is glistening off the snow….Â
….
OMG, my brain must have shorted out there for a second.
That idealistic vision bears no resemblance to my previous posts about Saskatchewan winters. But , it’s true. I do miss the sun. Sunny, bitter cold really is preferable to mild and messy.

I 100% agree with you. I despise the winter rain and the slush and would be happy with a decent -10 over a wet 2 degrees.

I understand your “grass is greener” mood, but this -40 is so cold that:
-the world seems it’s frozen solid
-the snow is not light & fluffy: it’s either frozen into a solid mass, or so dehydrated it’s like styrofoam
-everywhere is icy
-the baby has dry heels
-the kids have cracked lips, dry hands, and itchy legs
-the doors on the vehicle freeze shut
-stuff just breaks on your vehicle
-your vehicle does not get warmed up underground at Superstore
-you have to leave your vehicle plugged in 24 hours a day
and…your pipes freeze if you forget to leave the water running at night (and your house is old*).
Luckily today we had a high of -9, so we can spend more time outside than just running from the house to the vehicle!
*Also if your house is old:
-there are major drafts
-your shirts in the closet freeze together
-the furnace seems it never quits running.
And yes, we’ve insulated as much as we can and have plastic over the windows!

Well, it is snowing like crazy right now, and it is awesome.
On a side note, I need to read these comments more often. It’s almost like my wife is starting up a blog in here! JK, Jess!
