I know, at this point all you hear (read) is “whine, whine, whine, snot, bitch, bitch, whine.” That’s ok. But I need to vent somewhere.
Is it just me or did all the germs in the universe unite to form some kind of super-virus the MOMENT there was a recall on all forms of infant and children’s cold medications??? Because parents really need to have more suffering in their lives and what better way to do it than torture their children with runny noses and coughing for which there is no medicine we can (supposedly) safely give? I still have a bit left over in my medicine cabinet and I’m totally giving it to them. Because their little faces are so raw from runny noses that they both look like they have leprosy and it’s scary! You can’t take away any relief from cold symptoms that we have for our kids! Parents everywhere will revolt! Ok. I will revolt. But still. Those scientist types better be working around the clock to find an alternative that works at least as well. Because I think after one whole winter without any children’s cold remedies, parents will be ready for a fight.

What has all been recalled? My kids haven’t been sick since this supposed “big scare”, because really, they’ve been talking about the dangers for like two years. I have a huge bottle of Children’s Tylenol Cold that I bought in June, so hopefully that will last us. I haven’t even looked into any of this stupid drug stuff. One person told me the reason they recalled it was because parents were giving it around the clock for like a week, when it is only intended for like 1-2 days. If that’s the case, it should still be on the shelves — in just smaller bottles with a warning.

All infants and children’s cold and cough remedies have been recalled. It started out small and got broader until they were taking everything away. But I agree. From what I understand they are saying that there is a possibility of a drug overdose if you take too much of it (duh!). So if I’m giving the appropriate amounts for my kids’ age and weight then I don’t see any danger at all. Unless you give the kid the bottle and let them drink it all.

Okay, so I just went and educated myself (which I suppose is kind of appropriate…) I guess they’re just investigating all forms of cough, cold, and allergy medication for infants and children. They said the medication was never intended for children under two (although there are pictures of babies on the bottles), so there have been some rare cases of overdoses, and that they don’t think they really treat cold symptoms anyway.
Well, I agree with you, Shannon. A few parents are causing problems for everyone, and pharmaceutical companies are trying to be tricky. about the age intended. So, I say, what’s so hard about giving the proper dosage?! And if your kid is sick for like forever, go to the doctor! Obviously your treatment isn’t working! (But, I guess Americans need to get health care first…)
And as if cold medication doesn’t work! It totally gives a bit of relief. However, at the hospital, we don’t even have cold or cough medication. It is all nasal saline drops, suctioning, Tylenol, and ventolin nebulizers. But who’s gonna suction and give nebulizers at home? I would love a big suction machine to suck up all that snot, but I’m sure it’s not possible to get one! And ventolin? I think there are a tad more side effects from that than children’s cold medication..
