Random Stories About Avery

Some cute things that Avery has been entertaining us with lately…

* We’ve been hearing the word “imagination” coming out of her mouth a lot lately.  I think she must have picked it up from Barney or something.  I was curious to know if she had any real understanding of the word because we do talk about “pretending” sometimes and she does often play pretend.  But the actual concept of “imagination” is pretty abstract for a two year old. So I was testing out her understanding by asking her questions.  “What are you imagining?”  “Are you pretending?”  “Do you use your imagination when you play with your doll?”  After receiving a number of vague answers I decided to try a different line of questioning.  “What color is your imagination?”  No hesitation.  “Blue!” she tells me with confidence.  I’m going to take that as a clue that she doesn’t really get it. Then again, maybe she does.  I’ve never tried to associate a color with my imagination.

* Avery has been learning a lot about anatomy lately.  Unfortunately she has got the word “pita” confused with “penis”.  This has caused quite an uproar since I have been going through a pita-sandwich craving and have been eating them every day for lunch.  Noon hour is now the source of all kinds of conversation about boy parts.

* Last week the hubby came home from work on his bike, as he does every day. This is hard work and he works up a sweat so after he took off his jacket he took off his shirt as well, making a comment about being hot.  Just a minute later Avery tells me “Mommy I’m feeling hot!” and pulls off her shirt.  It was really cute.  We tried to explain that only boys go around with their shirts off but today when I took off her shirt to put some lotion on her chest she reminded me that only boys take off their shirts. I’m not exactly sure how to straighten this one out.
